Dr. M. Gulam Hussain, an expert in Blue Economy, Aquaculture and Fisheries, Coastal and Marine Fisheries Resources Management having PhD in Aquaculture, M.Sc. in Aquaculture Management and B.Sc. in Fisheries (Honors). He did his PhD in 1992 from the Stirling University, Scotland, UK. Dr. Hussain has >35 years of extensive professional experience in Aquaculture and Fisheries R & D, having experience also in the field of Freshwater and Marine Aquaculture, Fisheries Management, Management of coastal and Marine Fisheries resources and related programs implemented under national government and international donors funded projects. He has vast experience at relevant fields and excellent track record in research and scholarly publications in the field of blue economy, fisheries, aquaculture, fish breeding, hatchery management and genetics, blue economy, blue biotechnology, marine and coastal fisheries resources. Dr. Hussain is presently involved as the Asia Regional Coordinator for coordination, monitoring and technical supervision of all the USAID Feed the Future Fish Innovation Lab (FIL) granted fisheries and aquaculture research projects in Bangladesh and Cambodia.
Under Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute (BFRI), Dr. Hussain was former Director General ie. Chief Executive (2009 – 2011) of Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute (BFRI), nodal research institute for leading and conducting research in Aquaculture and Fisheries as per national mandate of the institute. He has proven track record in R & D projects both nationally and internationally due to his work in Bangladesh and other countries viz. Japan, Malaysia,, Nigeria, Syria, Thailand and United Kingdom. He is authors and co-authors of nearly 200 peer reviewed scientific papers and technical reports, a number books and book chapters in the field of his expertise. He has an excellent communication skill in English language & also have outstanding report writing ability with analytical outlook.
